San Antonio, Here We Come!

Jon and I have decided to move to San Antonio!! We will be leaving in less than a month! I have already packed away movies, throw pillows and blankets, a lot of books, and I cleaned out my 'craft' desk (more like my desk drawers filled with 'junk' - how did fingernail clippings get in there? Gross).  It's a little overwhelming, but it's so nice to get rid of stuff, too.
I am really excited to move and to have a new adventure, but I am sad to leave friends and family. I am comfortable here and I like Utah, but I need a change. Anyone can come visit us whenever!!
Here are some reasons why I am excited about moving to San Antonio:

The Alamo:

The Riverwalk:

The Riverwalk at Christmas time:

The Majestic Theater:

SeaWorld:

Reasons I am NOT excited about Texas:

- just type "Bugs and Spiders in Texas" in Google and there you will find about a million reasons
- being sweaty all the time
- not having snow at Christmas
I think the pros outweigh the cons (plus, if we live on the second floor of an apartment building, I think the bugs will have a harder time getting in!) But I will have some (ok, a LOT) of RAID on hand just in case.

History

My father-in-law, Boyd, loves family history and has a lot of old documents and some journals. I love looking through it all and seeing what things cost back in the day, looking at their beautiful handwriting, what activities they did, etc. He has his grandma's journal, and he is letting me type it all up for him. It's from 1938.
So far, I have loved reading it. His grandma certainly did a lot of ironing, washing, cleaning, and mending. And she always had visitors. They often took drives up the canyon. Here are some of my favorite things I have learned so far:

- She seemed to always be shopping for a dress, but could never find one

- I learned that a 'milk nickel' is chocolate coated ice cream bar (a friend bought her one)
- she was upset with another woman for not coming to a party, and wrote "...(she) would not come. We were all angry and think she is ignorant and sadly lacking in courtesy. From now on she is mud in my eye." :)

- the 'menfolk' were obsessed with striking oil
-  on Sundays they would go to church, but still go out for ice cream and shop
- Primary was on Tuesday, and she once wrote "Primary this morning. I wish they would quit Primary".

- she was voted in as the county corresponding secretary for the Stake Pioneer Camp

- it rained a lot in the month of May in 1938

- she visited friends who were sick and helped out a lot at funerals

- Memorial Day used to be called Decoration Day

- they went to the movies sometimes; they saw "The Hurricane", made in 1937.

- She mentioned how her husband was excited about the Shmeling vs. Louis boxing match

- She once wrote "While the children went to Sunday School, dad and I jazzed around in the car all morning". I looked that one up - Jazzed around meant 'to move about aimlessly or without any destination.' So pretty much, just hanging out in the car, driving around. Jon and I do that, too, sometimes! I love that the kids went to church and the parents would  go for a drive :)

Anyway, I'm not even half done yet, but so far I have loved reading it and typing it up. Her handwriting can get a little hard to read sometimes, and I'll have to ask Boyd about a few names - is it Montel or Martel? And her capital D's look like some sort of cursive U with a squiggly line. I had to get used to that pretty fast!

Jeeps...I'd Rather Have a Milk Nickel--Deliciously Chocolate Coated Ice Milk

Decisions, Decisions

I have no idea how much longer we will be in Utah. Jon has been offered jobs in San Antonio, New Jersey/Philadelphia, North Carolina, and is flying to Denver on Monday to interview with a company that is located in Virginia. The offer in Texas is the best deal so far, but we are waiting for the offer email from North Carolina. If it's about the same, my vote is to go there! San Antonio seems fun and people who have visited or lived there say they love it, but I would really like to be closer to my parents - and the beach. Washington DC is 5 hours away from the town, so that would be a nice weekend trip, too. But there is definitely change in the air! I've already packed a few boxes!

This house is in Clinton, NC - the same town where the job offer is. Isn't it beautiful?!

Will someone please lend me $325,000?

I will pay you back slowly but surely.

I'm BAAACK!

It's been over four months since I blogged last, and Blogger looks totally different! I miss too much when I don't update!
For this update, I am using the questions Megan and my sister Hannah tagged me in. First, I'll start with Megan's questions, then Hannah's. So now everyone can know me even BETTER :) .

1. What is your biggest fear?

Spiders - I think everyone knows how deathly afraid I am of spiders. My eyes seem to know exactly where they are in the room, too. I think they gravitate to any mark on the wall, any slight movement of the wind, etc. I just know where they are!

2. If you could throw yourself your own birthday party, what would the theme be?

Hmmm - I'm not really into themes, but I would love just to have a bbq and play games like bocce ball and croquet and have a firepit in the evening and talk to good friends and family.

3. Have you become the person you thought you'd be ten years ago?

No.

4. What was the most romantic date you've ever been on?

Probably going up the canyon in the winter with all of the snow and having a campfire and snuggling in a blanket. (And having my first kiss, of course!)

5. What nicknames do you have?

B, Molly B, McButter, MB, Mollz, 'Mowy' (by my cute nephews and nieces how have a hard time with the 'L' sound).

6. If you were left a fortune what would be the very first purchase?

If paying off debt doesn't count, I would buy a plane ticket to any 3rd world country and build an orphanage. These are the beds I would build for it:

I love these!

7. Where do you go when you just want to be alone?

I love to go for drives, just to see the beautiful nature, but also to listen to music, think, and pray.

8. What is the one essential makeup item that you can't live without?

Foundation - I need to cover up!

9. How often do you talk to your mom?

It used to be every day (sometimes a couple of times a day!), but now the average is every other day.

10. Would you willingly go back to relive your high school years?

No way.

11. What is your favorite computer font?

 Times New Roman or Cambria

And now, onto Hannah's questions:

1. What is a talent that you wish you had?

I wish I could play the piano really well. I also wish I was more social (that's a talent, I think!)

2. What is your biggest fear?

Like the question before, spiders. But another fear would be driving on the freeway. I used to love driving back and forth, but for some reason,  I get nervous lately. Probably because Jon always drives, and because there is so much construction, AND because Utah drivers are the worst.

3. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be (besides scriptures)?

This is hard because I like a lot of books, so I am cheating and naming a few:

I really love 'Fifteen' by Beverly Cleary. It's an easy read, and it's just so cute, especially for the hopeless teenage romantic (and obviously for 24 year olds like myself).

I love reading stories from The Book of Virtues and The Moral Compass.

AND I love Gone With the Wind. AND self-help and relationship books.

Haha, so I really don't know which one I would choose.

4. Let's say you had to live the life of a TV character (past or present). Who would you be?

Lucy Ricardo. I would have great friends to hang out with and always go on double dates with, I would travel, I would shop a lot, and I would have husband with a beautiful voice who owns a night club!

5. What is your dream vacation?

I have always wanted to go tour all over Europe, especially Italy and Greece. Stay in cute B+Bs, walk on the cobblestone streets, eat yummy food, drive through the countryside, eat brunch at an outdoor cafe', etc. AND I would love to go to the Carib Also, to go on a safari in Africa, and see all of the beautiful animals (especially the giraffes and elephants, my favorite!)

So pretty (Tuscany)

Look how cute it is!

6. Do you have any recurring dreams (either exactly the same, or just about a certain person/situation)? If so, what are they about?

I have had a dream twice about a big white farm house with it's own little pond in the front. I don't know what it's about or anything, but I just have seen this house both times. (Better than last nights' dream - X-Files meets Downton Abbey! It was the WEIRDEST dream I have ever had, I think.)

7. What is your dream job?

I have always wanted to travel and help people. I would love to open my own non-profit organization, or work for the United Nations in a 3rd world country.

To see everything and to help people and have adventures

8. What would you choose to be your last meal?

Mom's stuffed shells, mom's homemade bread with rhubarb jam, ice cold skim milk, and watermelon. And an ice cream cone for dessert. :) Oh and throw in some chocolate covered gummy bears.

9. What is the best gift you've ever received?

I love the calendar mom made us with everyone's birthdays and anniversarys. Also, the speakers mom and dad gave me for a graduation present. I love listening to music, and they are perfect and crisp and they can get loud!

10. Describe how you would like your life to be in 10 years.
I would love to have a few kids, live in a comfortable house with a big yard and garden, and go on fun family vacations. Also, by then I hope to have traveled at least once outside of the country.

Ok, it may not be THIS comfortable...but  a girl can dream.

I promise to blog more! Life has been going by so fast - Jon and I have been married for almost a year, Christmas has come and gone, birthdays for both of us, trips to Denver and Idaho, applying for jobs, etc.
